Prior to the culmination of the Community Unity Cultural Celebration of Kwanzaa on December 28, 2023 there will be an eight-week project where participants will learn about the Nguzo Saba, or “The Seven Principles”.  Through this program, participants will demonstrate how they can translate the principles into their daily lives through artistic forms of expression like hip hop, song, dance, poetry, or writing.

The program kicks off on 10.21.23, when youth and seniors will come together during a hip-hop-meets-old-school Meet and Greet. Our goal is to begin to bridge the generation gap by building cross-generational connections and opportunities for collaboration. Through this project we can begin to create a space where youth and seniors can Pair, Partner and Promote the seven values of the Nguzo Saba, which will help to build and reinforce the community against dissension and hate.

Some individuals – those covering the principle of Ujima: Collective Work and Responsibility, which is to “Build and maintain our community together and to make our brothers and sisters problems our problems and to solve them together” – will be asked to review the findings of a survey to decide what should be done and present their findings to elected officials for a resolution in 2024.
